Lucy Braddock

Head Coach

Lucy Braddock was born and raised in Arlington, Virginia. She graduated from Maret
School, where she played volleyball, basketball, and threw the shot put and discus for the track and field team. Lucy graduated from American University in 2022 with a BS from the Kogod School of Business. In 2021, she returned to Maret as an assistant coach for Varsity Volleyball and Track & Field. In 2023, she became the head coach of the JV Volleyball and JV Basketball teams. Lucy played every position on the volleyball court during her career at Maret. She has experience in all areas of the court, and she is excited for all of her players to learn more about each position. Her goals for the 13U players are to increase their understanding of volleyball, create meaningful relationships with each other, and enjoy all that the sport has to offer.

EmyJa James

Assistant Coach

EmyJa James, mostly known to her players as “Coach E”, was born and raised in South Florida. She began playing volleyball at the middle school level, went on to JV, and then Varsity where she mostly played as an outside hitter. Simultaneously, as she began playing volleyball, she also joined track-and-field as a shot-put and discus thrower.

After high school, she attended North Carolina Central University where she played club and intramural volleyball for two years. After graduating in 2019 with her BS in Criminal Justice, she went on to pursue a Masters in Public Administration. While in graduate school, she coached girls ages 11-13 at the developmental level for a couple of seasons. Upon graduating with her Masters in 2021, she has taken some years away from the sport to pursue her career and other passions.

Her overall goal as a coach is to use her experience as a dual athlete to instill discipline and perseverance in each player. Her goals this season are to help the players to gain a thorough understanding of the fundamentals and increase their overall volleyball aptitude. She hopes it will help the players to be eager to return each year.
