Coach Tom brings a deep passion and energy to every practice. His core belief is that anyone can excel at volleyball with the right combination of passion and mindset. Coach Tom doesn't just coach skills; he coaches the whole athlete, instilling a growth mindset that empowers players to overcome any skill, strength, flexibility, or mental challenges they will face.

In high school in Maryland, he played Varsity men’s and co-ed volleyball as a setter, defensive specialist, and outside hitter. After college, he played in a competitive rec league in California and expanded his game further to be a middle hitter. 

​

He has coached volleyball for 6 years, including while he was a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines and for Banneker High School in Washington, D.C.

Coach Tom lives in the District of Columbia with his wife, 2 teenagers, and a very loud husky mix.
 

Coach Matt believes players learn best in a supportive, encouraging environment—a philosophy reflected in his enthusiastic and unwaveringly positive coaching style. He played middle hitter on his college club volleyball team and continued developing his game in New York City, competing in high-level leagues alongside athletes from around the world, including former national team players.

Coach Matt coached recreational volleyball with Sports on the Hill from 2015 to 2020, before the program closed during the pandemic. He’s excited to be back on the court and coaching again.
